Background

One of Singapore's leading Country Line Dance groups, Country Bandwagon was formed in December 1998 by Audrey Lee, Eric Tan and Mary Lee. The trio set up the group for the sheer love of Country Line Dancing and to help propagate it to Singaporeans young and old. After mastering early dance favourites such as "Cowboy Cha Cha", "Bootscootin' Boogie" and "Achy Breaky Heart", they immersed themselves in the fundamentals of Country Line Dancing in countless hours of practice and jams to emerge as one of the leading groups of Country Line Dance instructors in the republic. Line Dance classes by Country Bandwagon commenced in late 1998 for the Eurasian Association and the Singapore Teachers' Union. From then on there was no stopping the group. Driven by sheer enthusiasm and passion for the dance, their commitment and labour of love contributed to the phenomenal popularity and growth of Country Line Dancing in Singapore.

With Allan Pereira and Marc Lim joining the group in 1999, Country Bandwagon strengthened their focus on teaching anyone and everyone interested in taking up Line Dancing. The philosophy of Country Bandwagon is simple yet effective - to bring the joy of Country Line Dancing to all who enjoy dancing as a social activity and to inject an element of fun in the process.

To enhance their dance and instructional skills, a group of Country Bandwagon instructors headed to Nashville, Tennessee USA, home of Country & Western music to upgrade their dance techniques and to learn the latest American Country Line dances. In line with this move to attain a higher standard of dance instruction, Mary Lee also achieved a National Association of Teachers of Dancing (UK) making her a certified instructor for dance classes in accordance with the requirements of the People's Association.

Thanks to the initiatives of some local organisers, Line Dance workshops with internationally renowned choreographers such as Bill Bader (Canada), Martin Ritchie (UK), Rachael McEnaney (UK), Gordon Elliot (Australia), Maggie Gallagher (UK) and Scott Blevins (USA) have certainly helped raise the standards and techniques of members and students. Today, Country Bandwagon instructors are seen as one of the best in the business in view of their adherence to high standards of instruction and commitment to ensuring that students attain an excellent level of competence in training.

Having conducted countless dance classes for various organisations and individuals, Country Bandwagon to date is responsible for hundreds of fine Country Line Dancers in Singapore. The organisations include: Country Clubs, Government Ministries, Primary & Secondary Schools, Tertiary Institutions, MNCs, Banks, Hospitals, Ethnic Associations, Private Condominiums, YWCAs, Churches and Grassroots' Organisations.

Country Bandwagon has also performed in numerous national and charitable events such as Countdown 2001 at Sentosa, The Healthy Lifestyle Campaign in February 2001, The Stroke Awareness Week in March 2001, Bone Marrow Foundation Luncheon officiated by Mrs Goh Chok Tong in April 2001 and Singapore Sports Carnival 2001 in August 2001 at Sentosa officiated by PM Goh Chok Tong. With a group of 30 core members, Country Bandwagon has emerged as a close knit group of instructors, performers and dancers who dance for the sheer joy and exhilaration which Country Line Dancing brings. Today the group is one of the Nation's pioneers in Country Line Dancing and will continue to promote this excellent form of art, recreation and exercise to Singaporeans from all walks of life.
